Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) Event

This past weekend, I was honored to be part of a Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) dinner/auction and beach triathlon in Long Beach, CA.  A fun part of my role at 2Roads has me always searching for ways to contribute to our community and this was a fun way to roll up my sleeves.   Big thank you to our 2R team who attended and supported the event – your time and $$ is appreciated!

My wife Erin and I were part of the organization and race management team that included Tina & Tim Weidenkeller and the Olympix Fitness team.    The goal was to raise some money, eat some good food and test some top notch athletes and we certainly accomplished that!

On Saturday night, Olympix hosted a dinner/auction on their beautiful rooftop for about 150 people.  We had four CAF athletes including Long Beach’s own, Casey Kammel who shared their amazing stories.  I am blown away about the every day courage they show and inspired by their achievements.   The triathlon began bright and early on Sunday morning.   Runners completed a 5k run + 10 mile sprint on Olympix spin bikes + a challenging obstacle course.  Tough stuff!!

During the event ramp up, I was inspired to challenge myself in one of my biggest weaknesses – swimming.  I am proud to represent the CAF team at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on June 4th.   The chilly waters of San Francisco bay will be tough, but nothing compared to what these tremendous CAF athletes encounter.   I’ll give it my best!

The mission of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF) is to provide opportunities and support to people with physical challenges, so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The Challenged Athletes Foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence and enhances quality of life.

Here are some pics from the event:

Jami Marseilles is amazing.  The first double amputee to finish the Boston Marathon.   It was awesome to meet her and learn about her amazing journey.  Here is Jami rooting on some of our spinners on their way to 10 quick miles.

Hopefully I can join these studs at the finish line in San Francisco

Learn more about CAF and their story – so many great athletes and racers.

With the 2028 Summer Olympics heading to Los Angeles, there will be huge opportunities to encourage athletes to participate in more sports then they thought possible.  Myself and the 2R Team will be very active in helping out in the community.  I look forward to working with such cool sponsors like Nike, Accenture, ITU and the City of Long Beach as the ramp up to the Paralympics and Olympic events.

Next week I’ll be out in Phoenix for Siemens PLMWorld.  Will send plenty of cool videos.

Thanks for reading – BV
