How does your IT salary measure up?

November 1, 2010 – INFO STOR – “The good news: The 2011 IT Salary Guide demonstrates that IT salary levels are once again headed upward.

Datamation’s 2011 IT Salary Guide indicates some respectable boosts in average salary. Lead applications developers get a 4.7% increase and software engineers will enjoy a 4.1% boost in paycheck. Okay, so IT managers move up a ho-hum 2.5% and project managers rise 2.8%, but Web deveopers jump 4.6% and system security admins levitate a healthy 4%.

The bad news: These rising IT salary numbers are merely compensating for last year’s 2-4% decreases. So the net effect is that IT salaries are essentially flat over the last year or so.”

That’s according to an article by James Maguire on InfoStor partner site Datamation. Read the full article:  “The 2011 IT Salary Guide,” which includes links to loads of IT salary-related information.

Although it does not specifically break out storage administrators, The 2011 IT Salary Guide enables you gauge your relative compensation across the following job titles: CTO, IT manager, developer/programmer analyst, lead applications developer, software engineer, system administrator ($53,250 – $83,000 in 2011), database manager, senior web developer, network engineer ($71,000 – $101,750), systems security administrator, and more.

Just be sure to pay attention to geographical areas, because as everyone knows: IT salaries vary widely by geography.
